I'm Here to Listen
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I completed a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) degree from the University of Toronto (Ontario, Canada) and a Masters of Education (Counselling) degree from Acadia University (Nova Scotia, Canada). My practice is dedicated to the mental health and well-being of adolescents and adults. I offer affordable in-person counselling services as well as in-home visits, telephone or e-counselling (virtual).
As a practicing humanistic, person-centered therapist with over 25 years of experience, I work with adolescents and adults dealing with issues relating to anxiety, depression, family and relationship difficulties, and low self-esteem. I believe that you are the expert on yourself and it is my role to guild you in the process of finding your best true self. My approach to therapy is to listen with compassion in a safe, comfortable and non-judgmental space. I use empathy, intuition and understanding to meet you where you are. I work at your pace in a gentle and nurturing way.
I am a registered psychotherapist in private practice and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). As part of my ongoing professional learning, I complete continuing education credits (CECs) on a regular basis to maintain good standing of my Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, creative writing, painting (watercolor and acrylic), gardening, hiking, traveling, and learning new things.
Life can be unpredictable and full of challenges. Sometimes we can get through them, but at other times, we become stuck. You may feel lost or overwhelmed in your current life situation; at home, at work, at school, in your marriage, or in dealing with family or romantic relationship difficulties. Or you’re simply looking to move in a new direction in your life and don’t know where to begin. You do not need to face these challenges alone. Therapy is something we work on together. Let's figure out what’s at the heart of the problem, recognize your strengths, and change patterns in your life that are not working for you. Together we will identify the next step to create positive changes and allow you to live a healthy, true and authentic life. I believe people tend to move toward growth, healing and change, and have the capacity to find their own answers.
.
Above are some of the issues I work with, however, there are many beyond this list that could be addressed.

COUNSELLING is a confidential process designed to help you address your concerns, come to a greater understanding of yourself, and learn effective personal and interpersonal coping strategies. It involves a relationship between you and a trained therapist who has the desire and willingness to help you accomplish your individual goals. Counselling involves sharing sensitive, personal, and private information that may at times be distressing. During the course of counselling, there may be periods of increased anxiety or confusion. The outcome of counselling is often positive; however, the level of satisfaction for any individual is not predictable. I will do my best to support you throughout the counselling process.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
All interactions (including virtual or telephone counselling) with LMH Counselling Services, including scheduling of or attendance at appointments, content of your session(s), progress in counselling, and your records are strictly confidential. You may request in writing that the counsellor can release specific information about your counselling to a person(s) you designate.
EXCEPTIONS TO CONFIDENTIALITY :
Disclosure may be required in any of the following circumstances:
There are reasonable grounds to believe that there is a risk of imminent harm to you or specifically identified others; or
There are reasonable grounds to strongly suspect of physical or sexual abuse or neglect of any person under 18 years of age; or
When disclosure is ordered by a court.
VIRTUAL OR TELEPHONE CONSENT
I am choosing to facilitate counselling sessions through LMH Counselling Services via the internet and Doxy.me (wwww.doxy.me) or via telephone. I understand that:
I must be at least 18 years old to consent to telephone or virtual counselling.
Internet programs are not 100% guaranteed to be secure and confidential. Please review Doxy.me security page: https://help.doxy.me/en/articles/95909-can-i-use-doxy-me-in-canada
All sessions should be treated like an in-office session. No outside distractions: turn off cell phones and close other computer programs. NO third parties will be in or near the session at any time without the counsellor's knowledge.
Technical problems may occur. If the call is disrupted, the counsellor will call you back shortly at the number you provided. As a backup form of communication should we get disconnected and not be able to get back in touch immediately, I can send the counsellor a message at lanmee@klmconsulting.ca.
If I am in crisis or an emergency situation that needs immediate attention, where I may be considering harming myself or someone else, I will call 911, contact the Canada Suicide Prevention Service (CSPS) at 1-833-456-4566 Available 24/7 or immediately go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
If the counsellor has any concerns about my safety at any time during a phone or virtual session or at a time when we get disconnected, the counsellor will need to break confidentiality and call 911 and/or your emergency contact immediately.
LIMITATIONS
It is important to note that there are limitations to video or phone counseling that can affect the quality of the therapeutic sessions. These limitations include but are not limited to the following: • With telephone sessions, I cannot see you, your body language, or your non-verbal reactions to the issues we are discussing. There may be technical failures where we may be disconnected or I may not hear all of what you are saying and may need to ask you to repeat things. Should the technical difficulties persist, I will contact you via phone at the number you provided.
I understand that for video counselling, I am required to have secure, good internet connection, webcamera/microphone, computer or tablet, and a private room free from any distractions.
I have read the above information and understand my rights and obligations as a client of LMH Counselling Services and understand the limitations associated with participating in telephone counselling or online counselling.
